Eastern is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Rossville is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Comets will welcome the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eastern will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Clinton Central on Wednesday. The Comets were the clear victors by a 24-2 margin over the Bulldogs. The Comets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Rossville made easy work of Clinton Central on Tuesday and carried off a 13-3 win. With that victory, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Nolan Britt made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, AJ Kelley and Zac Wainscott did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Wainscott went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles Wainscott has posted since back in May of 2025. Levi Darnell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Rossville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clinton Central only posted an OBP of .417.
Eastern's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Rossville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Eastern came out on top in a nail-biter against Rossville when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
