Grayville hasn't had much luck against Mt. Carmel recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bison will take on the Golden Aces at 4:30 p.m. Grayville has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hutsonville/Palestine hit Grayville with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bison lost 11-1 to the Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 27 runs in the game before, the Bison couldn't push the score so high this time.
Ava Kleinschmidt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mt. Carmel ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against Casey-Westfield by a score of 10-6. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Aces sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Lyla Keepes spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Evie Sellers was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Leah Lewis was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Mt. Carmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Mt. Carmel's record now sits at 10-4. As for Grayville, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grayville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Mt. Carmel struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grayville might still be hurting after the 21-3 defeat they got from Mt. Carmel when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
