Mountain Crest and Ridgeline are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Riverhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mountain Crest is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Payson just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 5-4.
Mountain Crest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brok Buttars, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ridgeline had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Monday. They never let the Miners get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. Considering the Riverhawks have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ripken Jensen was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Easton Hammond looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Cooper Clark and Maddux Jensen did most of the damage at the plate: Clark got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Jensen went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Jensen a new career-high. Tyson Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Ridgeline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Park City only posted an OBP of .250.
Ridgeline pushed their record up to 21-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain Crest, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mountain Crest has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ridgeline struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mountain Crest came up short against Ridgeline when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 5-2. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
