Two dominant in Shiquan Ethridge and Marti Mcknight are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wayne Christian Eagles will face off against the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a ten-game winning streak alive.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wayne Christian walked away with it. They breezed by Faith Christian on the road to the tune of 52-14. Wayne Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won nine matches by 20 points or more this season.
Wayne Christian's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Oliver Thomas, who rushed for 197 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Thomas really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Winders, who rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Academy faced Halifax Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rocky Mount Academy took down Halifax Academy 56-42 on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Mcknight, who rushed for 176 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Another player making a difference was Gehrig Miller, who threw for 148 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Wayne Christian to 11-1 and Rocky Mount Academy to 10-2.
Wayne Christian couldn't quite finish off Rocky Mount Academy when the teams last played back in September of 2022 and fell 42-40. Can Wayne Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
