Homer has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Nikiski Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Homer has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
A well-balanced attack led Homer over Ninilchik in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Homer blew Ninilchik out of the water with a 53-18 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Homer had established a 31 point advantage.
Meanwhile, Nikiski's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eagle River.
Despite their loss, Nikiski saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Avery Ellis, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ellis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Burman, who scored 11 points.
Homer pushed their record up to 11-6 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Nikiski, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
Homer didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Nikiski in their previous matchup last Friday, but they still walked away with a 41-35 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Homer since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
