Softball Recap: Howard Wins Going Away Against Reservoir

Howard lost to Reservoir back in April of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Lions blew past the 'Gators 13-3. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

Kiersten Black made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Howard got a massive performance out of Hadley Coleman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Meleah Hannie, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Howard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in four consecutive games.

Howard's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Reservoir, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Howard is set to take on their familiar foe Atholton at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Reservoir will face off against rival Wilde Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
