The biggest upset of the week belonged to Saltillo, who took down 50th ranked New Hope, 42-22. Andrew Soper threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 118 yards in the win.
Kaelin Thomas of Center Hill ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region 1 this season against Oxford last week. Thomas scampered for 72 yards on the play and finished with 103 on the day as his team fell to the Chargers.
D'marius Gillespie was the best wideout in the league this week as Center Hill lost to Oxford. Gillespie racked up nine receptions for 157 yards. Dante Miller helped Center Hill's passing attack out by catching three balls for 58 yards.
Parker Adamson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Johnny Hill's team beat Alan Peacock's team. He completed 20 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 40 yards. Adamson's favorite target this week was Glenn Gordon, who caught six passes for 91 yards.
Ethan Clark made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Mustangs fell to the Chargers. The 5-foot-10 defensive lineman forced one fumble and grabbed one sack.
Oxford's Adamson and Nick Brown have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Adamson has thrown for 1105 yards this season, while Brown, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 20 catches for 409 yards. The Tigers' Soper leads the league in rushing yards with 437.
A big matchup in 5A Region 1 this week will be when Saltillo takes on Clarksdale. Pat Byrd's team is currently in second, while the Wildcats are in fifth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Hernando takes on West Point. The Tigers have allowed 79 points this season, while the Green Wave have given up 76. Hernando allowed 14 points last week as it lost to Clarksdale.
The Chargers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Center Hill, 40-27. The victory was the fifth in a row for Oxford.
