Basketball Recap: West Holt Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

West Holt hadn't done well against Elkhorn Valley recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The West Holt Huskies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Elkhorn Valley Falcons, sneaking past 59-56. This was a revenge game for the Huskies: when they faced off against the Falcons back in January, they had to take a 56-46 loss.

West Holt's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zach Hooey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. Hooey's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Drake Nemetz, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Elkhorn Valley lost, don't look at Kellyn Ollendick. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. Ollendick continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Korbin Werner was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

West Holt has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points over those games. As for Elkhorn Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.

Looking ahead, West Holt and Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] sitting on five straight wins and West Holt on six. As for Elkhorn Valley, they will square off against Cedar Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhorn Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
