Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Eastern walked away with it. They pulled ahead with a 41-40 photo finish over the Tipton Blue Devils on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Comets sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Eastern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gibson Eagle, who threw for 302 yards and three TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes. That's the most passing yards Eagle has posted since back in October of 2024. Another pass catcher making a difference was Bently Hullinger, who picked up 198 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Despite the loss, Tipton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Quinn Tolle threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in two rushing scores. Izayah Mahaney got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Eastern's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Tipton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Looking ahead, Eastern will square off against Eastbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 14.3 points per game this season, so the Comets' offense will have their work cut out for them. Tipton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
