Baseball Game Preview: Apache Junction Prospectors vs. Florence Gophers

Apache Junction is 0-3 against Florence since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Apache Junction Prospectors will square off against the Florence Gophers at 6:00 p.m. Apache Junction will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Apache Junction had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Coolidge on Tuesday. Everything went Apache Junction's way against Coolidge as Apache Junction made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Prospectors have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Aidan Mead looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Trisoliere, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Apache Junction kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Florence's offense. They fell 3-0 to Seton Catholic on Tuesday. It was the first time this season that the Gophers let down their fans at home.

Apache Junction pushed their record up to 5-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.17 hits in those games compared to only 5.6 in the others. As for Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Apache Junction has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Apache Junction suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Florence in their previous matchup back in March of 2017. Can Apache Junction avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
