Bethany and Cornerstone Charter are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Bethany Wolves just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Cornerstone Charter took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Bethany, who comes in off a win.
Even though Bethany has not done well against Clover Garden School recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Bethany snuck past Clover Garden School with a 51-47 victory. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but Bethany was the better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bethany to victory, but perhaps none more so than Haley Ricketts, who scored 11 points along with five assists and four steals. Ricketts has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Leah Denny, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Cornerstone Charter suffered their biggest defeat since November 17, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 58-31 loss at the hands of Piedmont Classical. Cornerstone Charter has not had much luck with Piedmont Classical recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Cornerstone Charter's loss came about despite a quality game from Kaylen Williamson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 61.3% of Cornerstone Charter's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Stephens, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Cornerstone Charter struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Piedmont Classical racked up 11 assists.
Bethany's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Cornerstone Charter, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-10.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Bethany have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 20.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Cornerstone Charter, though, as they've been averaging only 31.2 rebounds per game. Given Bethany's sizeable advantage in that area, Cornerstone Charter will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Bethany against Cornerstone Charter in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 55-13 win. With Bethany ahead 39-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
