The Robinson Rockets will head out on the road to challenge the West Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Robinson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Robinson proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 11) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Joshua 4-3.
Robinson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Richards, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Lexi Rosillo also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, West made sure to put some runs up on the board against Dawson on Tuesday. West's pitcher stepped up to hand Dawson a 15-0 shutout. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.
Laynie Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last eight games.
In other batting news, Mabri Warren was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kyla Shoppach, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
The win was the third in a row for West, bringing their record for this year to 7-9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Robinson, their record now sits at 12-2.
Everything went Robinson's way against West when the teams last played back in February, as Robinson made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Robinson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
