Despite the defeat, Sam Houston saw an underclassman step up: Harlem Hayes scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hayes has scored all season. Terry Brock was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Sam Houston has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 17 of their last 18 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-24 record this season. As for Martin, their win bumped their record up to 14-16.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sam Houston will challenge the Buffalos at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Haltom's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while the Texans have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Martin, they will face off against the Gophers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
