Section 9 B recap Sept. 26, 2012
Evan Loughran and Josh Riley provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Saugerties. The longest such play in Section 9 B this season, the connection resulted in 84 yards.
New Paltz moved up to 204 from 358 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Huguenots were able to make the jump by beating Highland 35-0.
Spackenkill's dynamic duo of Loughran and Riley proved tough for the Sawyers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Loughran threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns and Riley had 150 yards receiving. Corey Usavich helped Spackenkill's passing attack out by catching one ball for 35 yards.
Darrly Clark was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 174 yards on 22 carries as New Paltz bested Saugerties. Khariff LaBoy also contributed to the rushing game with 142 yards on the ground.
On the ground, Tom Tegeler's team's Clark has rushed for 541 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Riley. The Spackenkill star has 10 catches for 239 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Spackenkill takes on second place Marlboro Central. Last week, Spackenkill beat Lee Meisinger's team, while Marlboro Central defeated Rondout Valley.
Next week's game between the Dukes and Clinton Desouza's team will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as JUSTIN VOTTA tests his arm against Marc Horvath's defensive ability. For the year, Marlboro Central's VOTTA has managed 445 yards and two touchdowns, while Horvath has three interceptions for the Spartans.
There should be lots of points scored when Rich Ward's team and Spackenkill face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Dukes comes in having scored 133 this season, while the Spartans have scored 130. Marlboro Central scored 19 points last week as it topped the Ganders.
Spackenkill extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Sawyers, 35-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
