Baseball Recap: Purdue Poly Englewood Starts off Right with Win over Providence Cristo Rey

Purdue Poly Englewood gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They blew past the Providence Cristo Rey Wolves 24-2.

Kin Chow and Nevan Jeffers made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Chow pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Meanwhile, Jeffers tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Chow scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Jeffers got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Chow is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Purdue Poly Englewood got a massive performance out of Diego Briceno Vega, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Alvaro Sanchez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Purdue Poly Englewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Providence Cristo Rey only posted an OBP of .471.

Coming up, Purdue Poly Englewood is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Indy Genesis HomeSchool at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Providence Cristo Rey, they will square off against Herron at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
