Fort Morgan has gone a perfect 7-0 against Fort Lupton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Bluedevils at 4:00 p.m. Fort Morgan is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
If Fort Morgan beats Fort Lupton with nine runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Liberty Common on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
JJ Marquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cooper Chisum was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Fort Morgan: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Izeiah Ortiz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Fort Morgan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Fort Lupton can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top against Greeley Central by a score of 12-7. Considering the Bluedevils' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Josiah Gonzales made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Gonzales was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cade Rhoda was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Ivan Mota was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Fort Morgan's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Lupton, their record is now 7-12.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fort Morgan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Fort Lupton struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Fort Morgan's way against Fort Lupton in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, as Fort Morgan made off with a 20-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
