Baseball Recap: West Florida Baptist Academy Beats Gulf Pointe Latin for Their Fourth Straight Victory

West Florida Baptist Academy came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators with a sharp 15-5 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-0 two weeks ago.

Trey Hughes made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for West Florida Baptist Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ethan Salter was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Baron Gray, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

West Florida Baptist Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .525 or higher in four consecutive contests.

West Florida Baptist Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, West Florida Baptist Academy will square off against Lighthouse Private Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Stingrays' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Conquerors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, they will challenge Trinitas Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
