The Mercer Cardinals lost against the Green City Gophers back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Mercer was dealt a 68-32 loss at the hands of Green City. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mercer in their matchups with Green City: they've now lost four in a row.
Green City was led to victory by Asher Buggs-Tipton and Xander Salas. Buggs-Tipton scored 16 points, while Salas scored 17 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists. The contest was Buggs-Tipton's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Hatcher, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
Mercer's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Green City, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Mercer will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Linn County at 7:30 p.m. on December 18th. As for Green City, they will be playing at home against Grundy County/Newtown-Harris at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Grundy County/Newtown-Harris focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday.
