The Rutgers Prep Argonauts will venture away from home to take on the Montgomery Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rutgers Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Rutgers Prep barely beat Gill St. Bernard's the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Argonauts blew past the Knights 7-1 on Saturday. The Argonauts haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Li Perez and Jake Treonze made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Perez didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Treonze tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At bat, Perez went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Treonze went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Ethan Nepomuceno was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Maddox Chu also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Rutgers Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Montgomery made sure to put some runs up on the board against The Pingry School on Saturday. The Cougars won by a run and slipped past the Big Blue 11-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Rutgers Prep now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Montgomery, their record now sits at 4-7-1.
Montgomery's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rutgers Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Montgomery, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Rutgers Prep's hitters?
Rutgers Prep couldn't quite finish off Montgomery in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Argonauts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
