R.W. Goines Stem Academy pushed their score all the way to 65 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of BigTyme Prep Academy by a score of 68-65. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as R.W. Goines Stem Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Bears are ranked 242nd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead BigTyme Prep Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mayen Ayuel, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Isaiah Stewart was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and two steals.
R.W. Goines Stem Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-9 record this season. As for BigTyme Prep Academy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. R.W. Goines Stem Academy will take on the at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. BigTyme Prep Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th.
