The Umatilla Bulldogs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They managed a 41-37 victory over DeLand.
Umatilla found their leader in underclassman Herva Brutus, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Brutus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Emalee Duncan, who scored 6 points.
Umatilla's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for DeLand, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Umatilla will square off against Altamonte Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. DeLand's road trip will continue as they head out to face Forest Lake Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 6th. Forest Lake Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while DeLand is ranked 67th).
