The Apollo Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 63-54 to Willow Canyon. Apollo has not had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Willow Canyon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Launa Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Rogers is crushing the block category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Kandace O Connell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five steals.
Apollo has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Willow Canyon, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apollo will take on the Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Centennial is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses. As for Willow Canyon, they and the Trojans will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Paradise Valley is ranked 104th, while the Wildcats are ranked 103rd).
