Baseball Recap: First State Military Academy Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for First State Military Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They skirted past the St. Elizabeth Vikings 5-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Maddox Holland made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. First State Military Academy is undefeated when Holland posts three or more RBI, but 3-8 otherwise.

Holland wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Black, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Black is becoming a predictor of First State Military Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Jacob Porrini also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

First State Military Academy's record now sits at 6-8. As for St. Elizabeth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. First State Military Academy will square off against St. Andrew's at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Elizabeth, they will take on William Penn at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
