III Section VI recap October 29, 2013
Thunderbird extended the longest winning streak in III Section VI this week by beating Alhambra, 56-7. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Thunderbird took down the Lions 56-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jake Glatting threw for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
Emanuel Gant threw for 432 yards and 6 touchdowns. He went 19-22 with 1 interception.
Jordan Leary was a force in the backfield as Phoenix Christian bested Shadow Mountain.
Gant put up the best numbers in passing as Tempe topped Moon Valley. Gant's favorite target this week was Massiah Smith, who caught 5 passes for 129 yards.
The Buffaloes' Gant and Smith led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Gant has thrown for 2,602 yards this season, while Smith has 45 catches for 974 yards. Scottie Jordan from the Cougars leads the league in rushing with 1,846 yards.
Tempe's Smith is only 26 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Alhambra. So far this year, he has garnered 45 catches for 974 yards.
Kam'ron Johnson of the Brian Walker's team is only 95 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 92 carries Johnson has put up 905 yards this year.
The Buffaloes are in first place, while the Lions are in fourth place.
Tempe led the league in scoring this week by notching 70 points on the Rockets. Gant ran for 28 yards during the win.
