Basketball Game Preview: Southland College Prep vs. Longwood Panthers

Southland College Prep and the Longwood Panthers will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Southland College Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.6 points per game this season.

Last Monday, Southland College Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Proviso East and fell 59-56. Southland College Prep has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, Southland College Prep saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. David Shaw, who went 12 for 28 on his way to 33 points and four blocks, was perhaps the best of all. The matchup was Shaw's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaunn Cooper Jr., who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Meanwhile, Longwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Lincoln Park 67-29. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 635th, while the Lions are ranked 36th).

Longwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Southland College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Everything went Southland College Prep's way against Longwood in their previous matchup last Saturday, as Southland College Prep made off with a 70-48 win. Does Southland College Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Longwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
