The Frisco Raccoons will head out to take on the Lone Star Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Lone Star will be up against a hot Frisco squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Raccoons simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat Heritage 56-28.
Frisco got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Voris out in front who rushed for 40 yards and a pair of scores. Lowery Asel was in the mix too, providing the Raccoons with two touchdowns.
Frisco didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Slade Bronson and J'Siah Watson. Baron Barker was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks, forcing two fumbles, and making nine total tackles.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lone Star). They blew past Heritage 54-7 on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Rangers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Coyotes are ranked 326th).
Lone Star found their leader in sophomore Trey Wright, who rushed for 120 yards and two TDs on only seven carries, and also threw for 270 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 93.3% of his passes. Wright's superb passer rating of 171.5 also marked a new season-high. Davian Groce was another key player, picking up 233 receiving yards and two scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lone Star was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 225 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Lone Star's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB seven times. Marcel Dominguez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up three sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Heritage's side was Dominguez, who picked up three sacks and made five total tackles.
Frisco's record now sits at 3-0. As for Lone Star, their record is now 5-0.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Frisco has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 165.7 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Lone Star has preferred to attack from the air: they average 269.4 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Thursday? There's only one way to find out.
Frisco couldn't quite finish off Lone Star in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 and fell 27-24. Can the Raccoons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
