Hanover is a perfect 3-0 against Monacan since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hawks will be playing at home against the Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. Hanover is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Hanover is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering King George just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 11-5 to the Foxes. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hawks, who until this contest were averaging 3.67 runs allowed.
Lucy Fleisher made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Kylie Towner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monacan). They blew past L.C. Bird 16-5 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chiefs considering their one-run performance the game before.
The team relied heavily on Caryline Hugenberg, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Wilchek, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Monacan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Monacan's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Hanover, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Monacan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hanover has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Monacan, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Hanover's sizable advantage in that area, the Chiefs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hanover got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2022 against Monacan by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Chiefs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
