Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Putnam City West). They were the clear victors by a 32-6 margin over Capitol Hill on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Putnam City West, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Braylen Anderson, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Xavier Farrar.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Putnam City West's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Anthony Dupree, Obama Bell, and Anderson, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Capitol Hill's side was Dupree, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Bartlesville dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Putnam City West, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Bartlesville has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 381.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Putnam City West, though, as they've been averaging only 73.4 total yards. Will Bartlesville be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Patriots flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Bartlesville against Putnam City West in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 40-9 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
