After a string of four wins, the Pueblo County Hornets's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to The Classical Academy. Pueblo County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as The Classical Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dominic Mauro. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lowry Kirkland, who scored 14 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead The Classical Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Wenger, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Wenger has scored at least a third of The Classical Academy's points. Carter Miller was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Pueblo County's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for The Classical Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo County will take on Palmer Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for The Classical Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
