Covington came tearing into Saturday's game with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.9 points), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 50-42 win over the South Gibson Hornets. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Chargers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Hornets are ranked 23rd).

Covington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but LeNiya Jones led the charge by shooting 56% from the field to rack up 12 points. That's the most points Jones has posted since back in December of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Ta'Kyra Boddie, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

Covington's record now sits at 26-5. As for South Gibson, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 28-6.

Looking ahead, Covington will challenge White County at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Chargers' defense better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 63.3 points per game this season. South Gibson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
