Greene Central dropped to 8-7 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Goldsboro Cougars, falling 14-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-11 back in March.

Shelby McKeel was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Michaela Drew Wells was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
As for Goldsboro, they now have a winning record of 8-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
On Goldsboro's side, Lainey Best spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Ava Westbrook and Aziyah Boyes did most of the damage at the plate: Westbrook went 4-for-5 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs, while Boyes got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave Westbrook a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addalee Denning, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Greene Central will venture away from home to take on Ayden - Grifton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Goldsboro, they will square off against James Kenan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season.
