Ballou has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Banneker Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Wednesday, Ballou faced Roosevelt in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ballou was dealt a 55-23 loss at the hands of Roosevelt.
Banneker suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were the victim of a tough 57-32 defeat at the hands of Jackson-Reed. Banneker has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Banneker saw an underclassman step up: Promise Njoku scored 19 points along with four steals and two blocks. Njoku is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rainelle McNeill, who scored eight points.
Ballou's loss was their ninth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-8. As for Banneker, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Ballou, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 36-17 loss to Banneker in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Ballou avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
