Harlingen South had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-14 victory over the Rowe Warriors.
Alvin Edwards was a one-man wrecking crew for Harlingen South as he rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown. Austen Shroyer was another key player, rushing for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Rowe lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Draven Niaves, who picked up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown. Niaves got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of64 yards. Rowe also got a significant boost from Samuel Liguez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.
Harlingen South will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against Harlingen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rowe, they are taking a road trip to square off against Los Fresnos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
