The DSST: Cedar Falcons just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Fountain Valley Danes at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Fountain Valley took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on DSST: Cedar, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, DSST: Cedar was able to grind out a solid victory over Lyons, taking the game 46-36. The victory made it back-to-back wins for DSST: Cedar.
Katelyn Fortune was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Amaya Paul was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Fountain Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. Their tough 42-21 loss to Thomas MacLaren School might stick with them for a while.
Despite the defeat, Fountain Valley had strong showings from Meryland Gonzalez, who scored four points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Quin Lewis, who scored seven points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Lewis posted two or more blocks.
DSST: Cedar now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Fountain Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: DSST: Cedar have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 43.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Fountain Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 23.6 rebounds per game. Given DSST: Cedar's sizeable advantage in that area, Fountain Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
DSST: Cedar came up short against Fountain Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 40-30. Can DSST: Cedar avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
