Basketball Recap: Zayion Cotton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grenada over Lake Cormorant

Grenada played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 73-52 to Lake Cormorant. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Lake Cormorant are ranked 45th).

Grenada's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zayion Cotton, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Those three steals gave Cotton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Garan Edwards, who posted nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Grenada and nudges their season record down to 4-18. As for Lake Cormorant, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Grenada will take on South Panola at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Cormorant, they are taking a road trip to challenge Center Hill at 11:09 a.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Lake Cormorant's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
