Basketball Recap: Beni Raanes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mize

There's no place like home for Purvis, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 66-42 margin over the Mize Bulldogs on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Tornadoes have posted since November 12th.

Purvis got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Beni Raanes out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. Raanes is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Judd Gipson, who posted 20 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Purvis was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

The victory got Purvis back to even at 6-6. As for Mize, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Purvis will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lawrence County at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Mize also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Richton at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
