Goochland is 0-6 against Louisa County since April of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Goochland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Goochland came out on top against Albemarle on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Bulldogs took their game against the Patriots 8-5. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Cameron Pickeral and Kyndall Shapiro did most of the damage at the plate: Pickeral went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Shapiro went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That's the most runs Pickeral has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh Shapiro, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Goochland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Louisa County came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mavericks an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won three contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Lily Ruckle looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Addie Talley was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kourtney Kidd, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Goochland's record now sits at 7-4. As for Louisa County, their record is now 7-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Goochland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Louisa County struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Goochland might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Louisa County when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
