The Whitman Vikings will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles at 7:15 p.m. Whitman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Seneca Valley likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Whitman didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bethesda-Chevy Chase, but they still walked away with a 58-53 victory.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thomas Farrell, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Titian DeRosa, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Seneca Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 68-59 to Wootton. While losing is never fun, Seneca Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Wootton is ranked 58th).
Seneca Valley's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jaysen Moise, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 33.9% of Seneca Valley's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Bryan Sowell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Whitman pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Seneca Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Whitman barely slipped by Seneca Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2019, winning 60-59. Will Whitman repeat their success, or does Seneca Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
