Westside and the Red Raiders are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Westside Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Greenville Red Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westside will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Westside put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 82-23 victory over Berea. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-6.
Ahrianna Scott and Makyhia Paul were among the main playmakers for Westside as the former scored 20 points along with four steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Paul scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Khalia Hartwell, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Greenville earned a 51-42 win over the Green Wave on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Greenville.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Greenville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayla Gaston, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Jakayla Lorick was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Westside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Greenville, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-12.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Westside have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Greenville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Westside took their win against the Red Raiders when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 68-45. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Greenville's Chloe Briggs, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Westside still be able to contain Briggs? There's only one way to find out.
