Preston hasn't had much luck against Elkins recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Preston earned a 7-4 victory over East Fairmont. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Bees: they've now won four in a row.
Wyatt Moyer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ayden Ward, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Elkins had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Pendleton County on Friday as they made off with a 13-4 victory. The Tigers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 11-0).
Braden Cooper was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Blayne Thompson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Elkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Elkins' win bumped their record up to 4-15. As for Preston, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Preston's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Elkins, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Preston continue to outrun the ball?
Preston couldn't quite finish off Elkins when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
