The Clovis Wildcats waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They really took it to Goddard for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-14 win on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-7.
Clovis was led to victory by Zarai Lewis and Kailyn Jefferson. Lewis scored 19 points along with two steals, while Jefferson scored 18 points along with nine steals and six assists. Lewis hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Aspen Ulibarri, who scored two points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Goddard had strong showings from Alessandra Porras, who scored six points along with six rebounds, and Carmen Grado, who scored no points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Goddard struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Clovis' victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points per game. As for Goddard, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
Clovis will be playing at home against Portales at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portales is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Goddard, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Teresa at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
