Meanwhile, Pettisville never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Stryker with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Blackbirds have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Luke Horning made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ryan Bishop was a standout: he got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Leppelmeier, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Hilltop's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Pettisville, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
Pettisville's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Hilltop has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Pettisville, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Hilltop keep running through batters, or will the Blackbirds buck the trend?
Hilltop skirted past Pettisville 11-10 in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Cadets repeat their success, or do the Blackbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
