Shafter has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Taft Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Monday, Shafter lost to Chavez at home by a decisive 66-50 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shafter in their matchups with Chavez: they've now lost five in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nathan Bloemhof, who scored eight points along with two steals. Aidan Cardenas was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Taft entered their tilt with Kennedy with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Taft walked away with a 54-47 victory over Kennedy on Monday.
Shafter has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Taft, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season.
Shafter took a serious blow against Taft in their previous meeting on January 4th, falling 73-44. Can Shafter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
