The Sylmar Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Dr. Maya Angelou Community Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two weeks ago, Sylmar didn't have too much trouble with Van Nuys on the road as they won 47-28.
Jacob McDonald was a one-man wrecking crew for Sylmar as he rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Willard Clark and his 82 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Sylmar's victory.
Meanwhile, Dr. Maya Angelou Community put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Adams 55-0 at home. Considering Dr. Maya Angelou Community has won seven matchups by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Branden Morales was his usual excellent self, rushing for 170 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Adrian Mendoza was another key contributor, throwing for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Oswaldo Jimenez and his two sacks.
Sylmar's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Dr. Maya Angelou Community, their victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Sylmar has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Dr. Maya Angelou Community struggles in that department as they've been even better at 222.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
