Softball Recap: Grace Christian Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Grace Christian lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Rocky Mount Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. Grace Christian blew past Rocky Mount Academy 12-2 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hayley Pugh made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Pugh was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Grace Christian got a massive performance out of Olivia Hochevar, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Hochevar a new career-high. Abby Carville was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Grace Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Mount Academy only posted an OBP of .269.

Grace Christian pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Looking ahead, Rocky Mount Academy will head out on the road to face off against Wake Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Christian will be paying especially close attention to Rocky Mount Academy's match: after Rocky Mount Academy faces off against Faith Christian, they'll take on Grace Christian again at 4:00 p.m. on April 1.
