Wirt County is 8-2 against the Crusaders since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Wirt County Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Parkersburg Catholic Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Wirt County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Wirt County came up short against the Raiders and fell 52-45. Wirt County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Wirt County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alex Bevel, who scored 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. Easton Wyer was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Parkersburg Catholic didn't have too much trouble with the Wildcats on the road on Wednesday as they won 68-49. Given Parkersburg Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Wildcats are ranked 828th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wirt County's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for Parkersburg Catholic, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Wirt County strolled past the Crusaders when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 59-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wirt County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
