Shasta hasn't had much luck against Foothill recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolves will head out to face off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Shasta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Shasta is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Pleasant Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolves have suffered since April 16, 2024.
Haley Salkeld and Sheala Buelna stepped up to the plate in a big way. Salkeld scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Buelna scored a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Salkeld, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Foothill waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Rylee Vakulich was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Malia Webb was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Taylor Bates was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Foothill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Enterprise only posted a batting average of .167.
Foothill pushed their record up to 11-3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Shasta, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Shasta suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Foothill when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
