Mission College Prep and Arroyo Grande are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but likely not for long. The Royals will venture away from home to square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Mission College Prep's last matchup with Lompoc could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Wednesday. The Royals came up short against the Braves, falling 11-4. The loss continues a trend for the Royals in their meetings with the Braves: they've now lost eight in a row.
Mission College Prep saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Malia Okimoto, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Arroyo Grande, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Cabrillo by a score of 7-2 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Conquistadores: they've now won six in a row.
Adelana Rodriguez (2026) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaylee Kopp (2027) was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Arroyo Grande always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Mission College Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Arroyo Grande, their record now sits at 8-17.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mission College Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arroyo Grande struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mission College Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Arroyo Grande when the teams last played back in April, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
