The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave will head out to square off against the Newberry Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. P.K. Yonge has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
P.K. Yonge made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Peniel Baptist Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blue Wave were the clear victors by an 18-12 margin over the Warriors on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Blue Wave, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Emma Mansfield, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alison Sanetz, who scored four runs while going 3-for-5.
P.K. Yonge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Newberry has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.56 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They lost 13-5 to Williston. The Panthers have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Malana Kennard was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
P.K. Yonge is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Newberry, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. P.K. Yonge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Newberry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
P.K. Yonge couldn't quite finish off Newberry when the teams last played back in March and fell 6-4. Can the Blue Wave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
