Baseball Recap: Siuslaw Has No Trouble Against Sutherlin

While Siuslaw's victory against Sutherlin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bulldogs 10-8. That two run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.

Joel Sissel and Jacob Mann made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Sissel pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Mann tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Sissel went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Mann got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Sissel a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maximus Reynolds was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Siuslaw's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Lucca Flosi also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Siuslaw always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Siuslaw's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9. As for Sutherlin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Sutherlin has already played their next game (against Mapleton/Siuslaw), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Siuslaw will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' matchup: after the Bulldogs face off against the Sailors, they'll take on Siuslaw again at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
